Rain Rain Go Away

You may have heard that we had a spot of rain here in California.

It was quite the event! It pretty much rained for a week straight, which threw a majority of Californians into a tizzy. I have to admit, it's pretty unnerving to drive on the freeway in the rain, considering how fast people drive here. Actually, it's not how fast they drive, but how closely they follow each other. Well, at any rate, my week wasn't spent on the freeway, thank goodness, and I rather enjoyed the rain. Bring it on, I say!

One of the last storms had the tiniest bit of hail, so of course that prompted a little hail throwing, the closest we'll ever get to snow around here!

 Two silly California boys!

A Frosty Laugh

This post is for all my northern friends. Yeah, and my midwestern friends. Just not my Southern California friends; you guys are not allowed to laugh.
Last week it was a wee bit cold around here.
Let me remind you that I live in Arizona. And I grew up in Southern California.

Right after I graduated from college, I moved to Northern California (a different state, really) to teach English. One day there was frost on my windshield. I had absolutely no idea what to do about it; in fact, had never even seen frost before. I went back inside and told the family I was staying with that I guessed I couldn't go to work that day.
Here's the part where you realize what a complete idiot I am.
Or you take pity on the innocent, inexperienced girl that I once was.
Mr. Welty then introduced me to the wonders of a credit card.
Oh the joy that little bit of plastic brings!

Grasping at Fall

How can you tell it's fall in Phoenix?
Well, the wind blows ever so gently. This morning it was slightly cooler outside than inside. We might consider turning off the AC, but only at night, and not quite yet.
We've power raked the lawn and are getting ready to reseed, along with the few other neighbors who have grass in the yard. So it smells like fall with the scent of manure wafting on the breeze.
And you can get a pumpkin scone at Starbucks, so it must be fall.

See the Summer Storm

Last night about midnight we had a bit of a storm.

See the water.

See the ice.

See the paint balls...umm, I mean hail.

See the pretty pool the next day. Don't you want to swim in it?

See the neighbor's yard.

See another neighbor's yard.

And another.

And another.

Big storm.
Scary storm.
Windy storm.
Summer storm.

When It Rains . . .

No pictures of the actual event, I was too busy making a run for it. When I dropped Tait off at football, I took a look at the sky and, being the astute weather observer that I am, realized it was not a matter of if but when. The when occured right in the middle of 8th grade science at back-to-school night--YES! Rescued from the 8th grade! I had to run across campus, barefooted, because those cute little Ann Taylor sandals I picked up in Idyllwild get super slippery when they're wet (I discovered that little perk during a downpour at DisneyWorld). Then, I slogged across town to pick up the Tater Tot who was getting pummeled by paint ball sized hail. All the while I'm picturing how I'm going to look on TV sitting on top of my car when they put me on the news as part of the Stupid Motorist Law. Well, it woulda made a nice youtube addition to the blog, but no thanks!

Here is Ann Taylor hangin' out with Michael Vick (we got a good deal on the cleats after Michael's unfortunate incident with the law)
